I got my first piercing at age 14, I saw a girl on tv with her belly button pierced and I just thought it was the coolest thing, it looked so amazing and erotic I knew right then i was going to get one. I asked my dad, and got met with an angry snarl, "Get one of those things and you aren't going to be living here anymore!" My mum wasn't much different. "Only ferals get those things dear, its mutilation." I told her that she had her ears pierced, but all she said was "That's different." Pretty slack hey? But I already had my mind made up, and the next day I went out to the tattoo parlor in Newcastle and had it done. Two years later, my parents still don't know I have it. A belly button really isn't all that hard to hide. If they did find out, they would kick me outer home.
A few years later, my navel is still pierced as well as my left nipple and my ears are pierced twice at the bottom. I had my right ear pierced through the cartilage but dad made me take it out. A lot of people think I'm crazy. I just laugh cause they don't know what they are really missing out on. A piercing in a sensitive place not only looks amazing and is a good icebreaker, it also increases the feeling you have in that area. Body piercing can also be very useful, tongue studs are fun to play with as you can click them on your teeth and piss off teachers, nipple rings can be used to hang your keys on when you are in the shower, and you can also use them to annoy security guards with metal detectors at concerts and at the airport.
Today body piercing is fairly socially acceptable, except if you are like my parents and still stuck in the stone age where boys are gentlemen and girls don't smoke or drink. People that don't have body piercing just don't know what they are missing out on, and that's a lot of fun. I would defiantly recommend nipple and navel piercing for anyone that's after something new and isn't as permanent as a tattoo. Depending on where you get the pierce, most body piercing is almost painless. I really don't like needles, but if you close your eyes its over in a second, no worries. Having the clamp on my skin hurt more then the actual needle anyhow. If you cringe and turn to jelly at the sight of needles or having pieces of metal poking out of your flesh, i would still recommend body piercing to you, because you never really know how much fun it is until you go and take the plunge and get something pierced.
